Getting Ready to Fly

In about a month, I'll be opening a small home-based studio to introduce the beautiful art and sport of pole dance to Kigali, Rwanda, where I have lived for three years now. Aerial Dance Africa will start by offering the award-winning Pole Pressure program - pole fitness at its best! I trained at Pole Pressure when I lived in the Washington DC area, and owner Jessalynn Medairy and I are both thrilled about making the program an international one.

I want to document this journey because it's groundbreaking, exciting, unpredictable, and the first step to a much bigger dream of establishing aerial dance (pole, aerial hoop, and silks) as an art form in Africa, infused with our own flavors. South Africa already has many pole dance studios so I hope to connect with that community along the way.

So far I know of only one other person here who has had pole lessons. (I'm not counting the handful of friends who have had a GREAT time trying out my poles ;-). Can't wait to see who else comes out of the woodwork when we get started!

As I get all the official business things done and fix up the studio, I'm looking forward to helping students have fun, get strong, build confidence, and eventually fly!! Get ready, Kigali!
